Manchester’s public transport
13/10/2008 by admin.
Had to go to Macclesfield for a business meeting.
Graham, the hero of the Littleborough station ticket office, reckoned he could save me money by selling me a wayfarer ticket. I have since found this on the GMPTE website:
“Wayfarer is a one day ticket that you pre-purchase and self-date on your selected day of travel. The tickets are valid all over Greater Manchester and parts of Cheshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire, Staffordshire and the Peak District. Wayfarer lets you travel by bus at any time and by train and tram after 9.30am weekdays and anytime Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays.“
It cost me £9.20 -less than the day return to Macclesfield, I scratched off the date and showed it tentatively to conductors, at ticket barriers, and to Metrolink inspectors. I needn’t have fretted…they all recognised it instantly.
I could have ridden round all day from Darwen to Ashbourne, from Warrington to Holmfirth. How impressive is that????
But one thing worried me. I am a transport journalist and I knew nothing about it. The only obvious marketing comes after you buy one with a £25 Marks and Spencer to win if you fill in a questionaire about where you have been.
Isn’t that a bit late?
