Trains, pains, and automobiles
09/01/2009 by admin.
Given the painful experiences on the West Coast Main Line over the last week, I feared the worst for my trip to London to chat to the RAC Foundation about a job. Oh ye of little faith!
My train left Piccadilly 9 minutes late and arrived at Euston 2 minutes late. Returning, it left on time, was diverted in the Midlands, was 10 minutes late at Stoke, made up the time and was 2 minutes late again at Piccadilly. In both cases the train manager was extemely apologetic. We forgave him!
My interview was at the RAC in Pall Mall….complete with Bentley on the meter outside. What a place! Apparently the Queen pops by for dinner occasionally. Not that I could afford to become a member, or would even pass muster at the scrutiny committee but you have to love these outdated centres of privilege.

How soon they forget

Minister for the North West Beverley Hughes set out five priority areas to ensure a prosperous, sustainable and creative region with opportunities for all during a meeting of the Cabinet in Liverpool. The Minister said she wanted the focus to be: * Identifying and exploiting opportunities for economic growth through encouraging new businesses to develop in the region * Strengthening both our urban and rural areas by streamlining regional decision-making * Getting people back into work quickly and enhancing the skills of those already in work to enable them to sustain their job and to progress * Harnessing the NW’s unique potential to contribute to the development of the UK’s renewable energy production and green jobs * To build on the success of the Liverpool Capital of Culture and the opportunities of Media City to promote creative industries and the visitor economy
Where is the mention of transport? Did Greater Manchester’s referendum pass her by?
